Neon Shell Crawler
Free
In the ruins of an abandoned research outpost, small green lights began moving under the floor panels long after the power had failed. At first, the explorers thought they were seeing damaged wiring. Then one of the lights stopped, turned, and climbed out of a ventilation shaft on hooked legs. The creature made no sound except the quiet scrape of armor plates against metal.
This model depicts a compact alien bug with a rounded armored shell, segmented legs, hooked claws, and glowing panel-like markings across its carapace. The body has a squat, low profile, giving it the feel of a fast crawling scout or robotic-organic creature. The shell plates overlap in a clear pattern, while the underside and limb joints show darker mechanical and biological forms.
The design works well for sci-fi tabletop encounters, alien swarm units, dungeon hazards, laboratory specimens, or display painting. The glowing markings are especially useful for textured versions and can be painted as neon green, blue, or any energy color. The broad carapace and stable stance make the model practical for both resin and FDM printing, while the claws and leg tips add enough character to keep the silhouette interesting from all sides.
This model is based on an original concept and design. The initial 3D form was generated with the assistance of AI tools, after which it was extensively refined and manually detailed in Blender and other 3D editing software. This workflow ensures the figure maintains its unique character and meets the standards of precision, structure, and print-readiness required for high-quality 3D printing.
Please note that the model is primarily designed for textured versions (OBJ + MTL in ZIP archive), allowing for a rich and visually detailed result when used with color-supported 3D printing or digital rendering. The non-textured version (STL, 3MF) may lack some surface details visible in the textured formats. The formats included are STL, OBJ, MTL inside a ZIP archive.
Recommended print technology
Resin printers for clean shell seams, glowing panel grooves, claws, and leg joints.
FDM printers work well at medium or larger sizes because of the compact body shape.
Suggested resin settings
Layer height: 0.03–0.05 mm
Orientation: slight tilt to reduce suction under the body and protect the shell surface
Supports: light to medium supports under the belly, claw tips, leg joints, and rear shell edge
Hollowing: optional at larger sizes, with 2–3 mm wall thickness and drain holes hidden underneath
Suggested FDM settings
Layer height: 0.12–0.16 mm with a 0.4 mm nozzle
Walls: 2–3 perimeters, infill 12–18%
Supports: recommended under the body and claws, depending on final scale
Material: PLA for easy printing, PETG for stronger claws and leg tips
Recommended size and print estimates
Recommended length: 80–130 mm for tabletop or shelf display
Supports: recommended
Minimum print time: 300 minutes
Material estimate at about 110 mm length: Resin 60–110 g or Filament 70–140 g, depending on hollowing and infill
Scaling Note: This model is designed in millimeters (mm). If it appears too small when imported into your slicer, ensure your software is set to mm units. If needed, scale the model up 100x if the slicer defaults to meters instead.
