Hive Overlord

Insectoid Tyrant

Free

In the lower tunnels of Aevaris, soldiers once found an empty fortress filled with claw marks, shredded banners, and the dry clicking sound of something moving behind the walls. The survivor reports all mentioned the same creature: a towering insectoid ruler with a crown-like skull, hooked limbs, and a mouth built for command as much as hunger. They called it the Hive Overlord, because every lesser beast in the tunnels moved as if it were obeying a single thought.

Core Faction: The Netherborn – Shadow creatures and demonic warlords
Lore snippet: The Hive Overlord is believed to command corrupted brood swarms that nest beneath ruined battlefields. Its body carries the marks of old mutations, and its many eyes are said to glow brightest when fear spreads through a crowd.

This model depicts a large insectoid horror creature in an aggressive, forward-moving stance. The figure has a long armored body, digitigrade legs, clawed feet, raised arms, and a segmented tail that gives the silhouette a predatory flow. The head is the focal point, with multiple bulging eyes, a circular tooth-lined mouth, mandible-like tusks, and antennae that make the creature feel alert and hostile.

The torso combines exposed rib-like anatomy with chitin plates, tendons, and layered biological armor. Spines and organic ridges run along the back, limbs, shoulders, and tail, creating many areas for drybrushing, washes, and color variation. The raised arms and open mouth make the model suitable for a boss monster, alien warlord, dungeon creature, or horror display piece. Its posture feels dynamic while still keeping enough contact points for careful printing and display.

This model is based on an original concept and design. The initial 3D form was generated with the assistance of AI tools, after which it was extensively refined and manually detailed in Blender and other 3D editing software. This workflow ensures the figure maintains its unique character and meets the standards of precision, structure, and print-readiness required for high-quality 3D printing.

Please note that the model is primarily designed for textured versions (OBJ + MTL in ZIP archive), allowing for a rich and visually detailed result when used with color-supported 3D printing or digital rendering. The non-textured version (STL, 3MF) may lack some surface details visible in the textured formats. The formats included are STL, OBJ, MTL inside a ZIP archive.

  • Recommended print technology

    • Resin printers are recommended for the mouth teeth, eyes, claws, spines, and fine organic surface detail.

    • FDM printers can work at larger sizes, with careful support placement and slower outer walls.

  • Suggested resin settings

    • Layer height: 0.03–0.05 mm

    • Orientation: slight backward tilt to protect the mouth, face, and chest details

    • Supports: medium supports under arms, claws, mandibles, tail, spine tips, and raised leg sections

    • Hollowing: optional for large prints, with 2–3 mm wall thickness and drain holes hidden under the torso or tail area

  • Suggested FDM settings

    • Layer height: 0.12–0.16 mm with a 0.4 mm nozzle

    • Walls: 3 perimeters, infill 12–18%

    • Supports: required under arms, jaw structures, tail, claws, and open body gaps

    • Material: PLA for easier printing, PETG for stronger thin parts

  • Recommended size and print estimates

    • Recommended height: 120–180 mm for tabletop boss use, or 200–260 mm for display

    • Supports: required

    • Minimum print time: 540 minutes

    • Material estimate at about 160 mm height: Resin 120–210 g or Filament 150–260 g, depending on hollowing and infill

Scaling Note: This model is designed in millimeters (mm). If it appears too small when imported into your slicer, ensure your software is set to mm units. If needed, scale the model up 100x if the slicer defaults to meters instead.
